Keeping employees and the economy healthy
Long working hours, long commutes, stress and sedentary jobs have all played a part in our high rates of overweight and obesity in Auckland. With adults spending up to a third of their time on the job, workplaces provide convenient opportunities to improve our diet and increase our activity.
And while workplace wellness has become a catchphrase for everything from stairclimbing to improved snack boxes, a healthy workforce is linked to higher productivity, staff retention and morale.
Business does have a part to play in fostering a health conscious workplace for its employees. Obesity and inactivity are now productivity issues as well and create an economic burden on our tax system.
